Nigeria: A Cargo full of Rocket launchers, Grenades, Bombs and Mortars

27 Oct

weapons of warfare in Nigeria.

The breaking news in Nigeria is the Tuesday interception of a shipment of rocket launchers, grenades, bombs and mortars at the Apapa Wharf in Lagos. The weapons were discovered from 13 containers by the vigilant security operatives of State Security Service (SSS).

Thank God the weapons were discovered before they reached the hands of the importers. We hope the SSS will not waste time in finding out the importers and expose these warmongers.

Nigeria is under siege, assailed by oil thieves posing as Niger Niger militants, daredevil kidnappers, assassins, armed robbers and do-or-die political contractors.

Last Monday at about 7.55 pm, there were loud gunshots, pandemonium and stampede near the popular Deeper Christian Life Bible Church in Gbagada, Lagos. Panicking motorists abandoned their cars and jeeps and fled in different directions, residents shut their doors and gates, market women abandoned their wares and traders hurriedly locked their stalls. Passers by ran “helter-skelter” and I joined a man to take cover in an uncovered gutter behind three vehicles parked in front of a two storey building. People were desperate to escape from being hit by stray bullets.

The Nigerian government cannot protect the citizens and the future seems bleak for the defenceless masses who now live in fear and trembling, because they would be worse off if another civil war breaks out in the most populous country in Africa. The CIA already fears that Nigeria could plunge into a state of anarchy in 2015 and the danger signals are making headlines.

We need to read the Climate of Fear by the Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka to fully understand the situation of the anomie in Nigeria.
